Upcoming Performances
The final performance for the 26th season of Music for the Lunch Bunch series will be Wednesday, August 18th at 12:15pm at The Clayton Center. Bob Clarke will perform on classical guitar.
"Very Good!" was the oft repeated phrase Andres Segovia used to describe the playing of guitarist Robert Clarke, when he was personally chosen by Segovia to participate in his 1982 Master Class in New York City. Clarke was the only member of the class who presented his work from start to end without critical interruption.
Mr. Clarke's performance background includes solo recitals in New York's Lincoln Center, Washington D.C., Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and a tour of Bolivia. He has played numerous chamber music concerts and concertos in the eastern U.S. and with the Renaissance City Woodwind Quintet. He has been frequently heard on radio and television in North and South America.
Tours with Flutist Carl Adams have included performances at prestigious venues such as Chautauqua Institution, Carnegie Hall, New York's Town Hall, Wolf Trap, the Kennedy Center, and Severance Hall. The duo also made two recordings on the Critics Choice Label. Critical Review includes such comments as "ingratiating, elegant, and artful" (New York Times), and "Clarke's solid musicianship is a genuinely romantic treat." (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).
Robert Clarke has won both national and international guitar competitions, and a full scholarship for the "Course of Andreas Segovia" in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. His superb technique and musicianship is a reflection of is instructors which include Jose Tomas, Michael Lorimer, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Jesus Silva, Guido Santorsola, and Loris Chobanian.
Mr. Clarke has served as Chairman of the Guitar Department at Duquesne University and has also taught at Carlow College and Kent State University.
The Music for the Lunch Bunch is a series of summer concerts held every Wednesday, at 12:15 pm, featuring local artists performing a variety of music, with particular emphasis on classical music.
